Cantonese Style Specialty Dishes

While we are extremely excited about the Halal Dim Sums, we opted to try the Cantonese Style Specialty Dishes first.

Interestingly, ‘The Emperor’ serves HK style Roasted Duck, Roasted Chicken, and BBQ Honey Roasted Chicken Char Siew. Out of the three, my favorite would be the roasted duck, be sure to pair it with their special sauce, the roasted duck meat was succulent and rich in fatty juice, and the duck skin was OUT OF THIS WORLD.

The BBQ Honey Roasted Chicken Char Siew was slightly tough for my liking but may appeal to those who prefer Chicken with a char-grilled skin. The Roasted Chicken was cooked to perfection, the meat was sweet and juicy, and it has a smokey BBQ flavor.

We also had some Stir-Fried Garden Seasonal Vegetable, Fish Fillet with Spicy Lemongrass Paste, Chicken with Dried Chilies, Wok Fried Prawn with Fragrant Salt and Pepper, as well as some home-crafted double-boiled soup. Our favorite out of this lot would be the prawns and the fish fillet, both were extremely fresh, and the meat was very ‘bouncy’, a testament of a very fresh ingredient.

The handcrafted Halal Dim Sum was served in the usual Cantonese-style steam basket. We had the signature dim sum such as the Siew Mai, Prawn Dumplings, Chicken Claws as well as Fish Paste. Our favorite was the Prawn Dumplings. Fresh and big prawns, mixed with coriander, wrapped in thin dumpling skin, make for a delicious treat! (Tips: Be sure to dip it in the Chili sauce for a more intense flavor)

We also had some fried dim sum, which includes Deep Fried Vegetable Spring Roll, Deep Fried Yam Puff, and our favorite, Deep Fried Prawn Roll with Cheese. The cheese in the prawn roll gives a unique flavor to the already delicious prawn roll, deep-fried to perfection.

Desserts are a must-try!

Desserts are in abundance with a variety of Chinese-style and western desserts, ranging from the egg tarts to the red velvet cheesecakes. The Sesame Ball was a surprise as it was filled with sugar and salted peanuts, which complement each other very well. The cakes were enjoyable as well.

There were also various Chinese-influenced soup desserts and jellies, with the Chilled Honeydew Melon with Sago, Chilled Sea Coconut with Longan, and Herb Jelly the standout dishes.

The King of Mooncakes

To end the feast, we were treated to a tasting session featuring the award-winning mooncakes. The eye-catching ‘Blue mooncake’ is a pandan paste crystal skin mooncake, infused with organic blue pea extract. Whereas the Durian mooncake is a crystal skin mooncake with authentic musang king flesh.

While the award-winning ‘blue mooncake’ caught our eyes with its unusual yet vibrant color combination, the pungent scent of the Musang King mooncake immediately won us over and we would highly recommend trying out the Premium Musing King Mooncake.
