The Gallivant Hotel is a new boutique hotel opened in October 2021, in Georgetown Penang. It is a modern and stylish hotel with an open-corridor concept. One would feel extremely soothing walking inside the hotel due to its minimalistic design, modern furniture, and ample natural sunlight. You can check out the pricing for The Gallivant Hotel HERE.
First Impression – The Gallivant Hotel Penang
My first impression of the hotel from the outside was that it looked pretty small. When I walked into the lobby as well I felt it was like a very thinly-squeezed building with only a handful of rooms. More on the size later.
The lobby was well-lit with ample natural sunlight. It’s design is very modern with a touch of white/gold colouring to it. There are also ample natural elements (wood/plants) in and around the hotel.
The reception counter at The Gallivant is pretty small, and there was only 1 person working. Despite it’s limited manpower and working space, check in was super efficient and I got myself checked-in within 5 minutes. Kudos to the receptionist who served me, well done Melissa!
There are ample spaces around the lobby for you to chill and wait for grab car, or to wait for check in. During my stay at The Gallivant, it was not crowded at all. Most of the time, I had the entire lobby to myself while waiting for my grab.
My room is located at Level 3, but I decided to head to Level 1, where the common area is located. There are again, tones of natural sunlight beaming through the rooftop and the windows surrounding the area.
This is a common area for guests to chill and unwind. It seems like this would be the breakfast area for guests as well, but no breakfast was served during my stay there as I guess it’s still early days for the hotel.
There is also a water-refill station near the pantry area.
The Room – Deluxe King
My room was located on the third floor of the building. There are only 4 levels in The Gallivant.
My room type is Deluxe King, which is the largest there is on offer at The Gallivant. The room was spacious, with ample spaces for a writing desk, as well as an open wardrobe and a lounge chair.
The view from the other side of the room looked more spacious.
The working desk for me is a bit too small, as I usually have my iPad and laptop on. The luggage area was sufficient for 2 huge luggage. I like the lounge chair near the window, perfect for me to lounge and watch some Netflix on TV.
The bed is pretty normal and comfortable. The size is just nice, can comfortably sleep 2 adults.
With the hotel’s design having so many natural sunlight, I was surprised and slightly disappointed with the vibe in the room as I thought the hotel would follow suit with the natural-lighting vibe. Unfortunately, only a small window was available in my room. Nevertheless, the room was well-lit with many light bulbs and lamp around the room.
A complimentary mini bar with coffee and tea is also provided.
The bathroom was pretty basic as well with the toilet and shower separated by a glass door. For me, I felt the toilet was a bit cramp, but otherwise still comfortable to do my business in.
Since The Gallivant is a boutique hotel, only basic amenities are provided. For me, these are sufficient.
I supposed the hotel would be great for some nice photos during sunset. However, it was raining on the day I was staying so it was pretty cloudy even during sunset.
Final Thoughts – The Gallivant Hotel Penang
We’ve never quite come across a hotel with a design so intriguing and comforting as The Gallivant Hotel. We especially loved the open-corridor design and the aesthetic common area concept. The room was basic, yet comfortable. Design were modern, yet incorporates some natural elements.
The Gallivant is a brand new hotel in Penang and joins an industry already severely wounded by the coronavirus pandemic. But, The Gallivant Hotel stood out as a modern-boutique hotel with affordable pricing, strategic location and a very instagram-able interior design.
