La Bodega is the first authentic Spanish Tapas and Wine Bar in Kuala Lumpur. I’ve had the opportunity to try the food during my stay at Hotel Maya, and you can check out our review HERE.
I first came across La Bodega when I was shopping in Empire Shopping Gallery. When I saw their opening of the new outlet at Hotel Maya, I decided to give it a try! La Bodega at Hotel Maya is located on the ground floor of the hotel. There is an Al-fresco dining area as well as an indoor seating where it is connected to the hotel’s lobby via a spiral staircase.
There is also a full-service bar where liquors, cocktails as well as wines from Argentina, Chile and Spain on offer.
The interior design of the restaurant has hints of Red all over, a sign of the passionate Spanish dishes and a prelude of how HOT the dishes can be!
To start, we ordered the signature cocktails, red and white sangria. Made with orange liquor, Rum, orange juice and lemonade, both drinks are especially refreshing. For those who prefer a lighter taste, go for the white Sangria!
Me being a drinker, I had to order another cocktail. Caipirinha, came recommended by the waiter! This was a bit stronger compared to the Sangria. Not for the faint hearted.
The first dish (tapas) was Gambas Al Ajillo. Fresh and succulent tiger prawns sautéed in olive oil, along with garlic and chili. Best way to eat this is to take the bread and dip it into the boiling olive oil, and eat it with the prawns and a couple of pieces of garlic.
The next dish was Charchuteria, or more locally knows as Cheese Platter. This platter has everything from Spanish cured beef, turkey chorizo, turkey ham, duck ham, Manchego, Scamorza, as well as Spanish Blue Cheese. This platter is huge and we would highly recommend it for 4 person.
The reason I ordered the mushroom soup because there is an actual soft boiled egg in the soup. Apparently, the runny egg yolk was supposed to make the soup creamy. Unfortunately, the soup was a tad too watery for my liking.
For the last 2 tapas, we had chicken skewers Japanese style as well as mussels. The chicken sweres were tender, and goes well with the Allioli. Unfortunately, the marinate on the chicken was too spicy.
We enjoyed the mussels with Capsicum salad and Caviar, very fresh and both the salad and caviar add an interesting crunch to the mussels.
Beef Pepperoni Paella Valenciana Mixta
For main dish, we had the seafood paella and beef pepperoni pizza. Pizza was average at best, however we thoroughly enjoyed the Seafood Paella. Paella was cooked to perfection with rich tomato sauce, and seafood was extremely fresh. Highly recommended!
Apple Tart Strawberry Cake
To end our dining experience at La Bodega, we had their apple tart and strawberry cake! Apple tart was crumbly and flaky on the outside, and creamy on the inside. The strawberry cake, on the other hand, was not too sweet and full of strawberry flavour! We enjoyed both desserts.
Overall, we absolutely loved the food at La Bodega. They have an extensive Tapas menu, and a great bar. Ingredients were very fresh and pricing are very reasonable. We highly recommend you to try out La Bodega if you’re staying with Hotel Maya. Check out the review of our stay at Hotel Maya HERE!
We would like to thank Christy and The La Bodega team for their hospitality and for hosting us for dinner! We thoroughly enjoyed out dinner.
