Stanton Hotel Kota Kinabalu is located in the previously known AIA Insurance building, now refurbished as a boutique hotel to reflect the Georgian Era design. Stanton Hotel is a mere 12 minutes drive from the airport, and is a 5 minutes drive away from mainstream attractions in Kota Kinabalu City.
First Impression
When I make my reservation at Stanton Hotel, I kind of knew what I was getting into – A British colonial style hotel. To my surprise, the design and architecture were well-done, and every fine detail was paid full attention.
The lobby is located on the other side of the building, and you will need an access card to get into the main hotel building. There are already some British-colonial vibe in the lobby, and overall the hotel has several great spots for your insta-worthy moment.
The Room
As you enter the hotel building, you would see some souvenir items on display. Prices are pretty affordable. If you are into colonial-era stuff, you might consider getting one or two.
I got the 2nd largest room available on Stanton Hotel, which is the family room that can fit 3 person. As you enter the room, you will first be greeted by the well-appointed toilet.
Nothing too fancy, but Stanton Hotel got all the basics right. A toilet, single vanity, toilet amenities, as well as a shower area separated by a glass door.
There is also a mini bar available, with drinks including alcohol, as well as instant noodles are chargeable. Prices are not too expensive. Coffee, tea, and bottle water are FOC. There is also a open wardrobe beside the mini-bar – a clever use of space!
Elsewhere on the TV area, there is a small luggage area that could only fit one luggage.
There is also a working area by the window, and Stanton Hotel actually provides full-set of stationary, in case you need it for your work!
My family room consists of 1 queen and 1 single bed, perfect for 3 person.
As my room was on the ground floor, there wasn’t really much of a view. You can however, chill at the balcony if you wish.
The Breakfast
Breakfast is served at a separate building just outside of the main hotel building.
Breakfast menu is pretty limited, with a choice of western or local set menu. I do realized that the western menu is the same across my 2 nights there, but they did switch things up for the local dishes. So, if you’re adventurous, go for the local set menu!
Final Thoughts
I really enjoyed my stay at Stanton Hotel Kota Kinabalu. I really like the interior design of the hotel, and the service was top notch from the team at Stanton. It is also pretty near to Gaya Street, and there are a few local eateries with walkable distance. If you are driving, do take note that parking is pretty limited in this property.
