Located in the center of Kuching city, The Waterfront Kuching is connected to the Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall. All major attractions around Kuching are beside the hotel, including the Sarawak River, Textile Museum, as well as Carpenter Street. Many local eateries, as well as souvenir shops are also within walking distance to The Waterfront Kuching.
First Impression
As you arrive into The Waterfront Kuching, you would immediately noticed it is right inside an area where it is surrounded by heritage buildings. The hotel is located inside (or at the back of) The Round Tower. Parking is available at this property.
I arrived at around 11PM at night as my flight was delayed. There were only 1 receptionist to check me in (which is understandable). Service was quick and top notch. I had my room keys in less than 10 minutes. The lobby is pretty simple, nothing to shout about but does its job.
The Room
There are several room types on offer at The Waterfront Kuching. However, I would highly suggest getting a room with a view of the Sarawak River. You can even watch the free light show from your room every night.
I am a huge fan of the bathroom at The Waterfront Kuching. It is spacious and in terms of deign, sleek and simple. There is a standing shower separated by glass door, as well as a toilet.
Single vanity with a huge mirror.
Full set of toilet amenities are provided. I am a huge fan of the toiletries! It is also replenished every day.
Bathrobes are provided, along with slippers and ironing facility.
As you venture out from the toilet, there is a luggage area beside the working desk.
The working desk is pretty decent, and is by the window which has a lot of natural sunlight when I was working in the afternoon.
There is also a lazy couch by the window, which I spent a lot of time on because it was super comfy!
My bed was a king-sized bed and it was pretty decent. I had an enjoyable 2 night’s sleep.
The Food – Café Via Mare
Café Via Mare is an all-day dining restaurant located in The Waterfront Kuching Hotel. I had my breakfast here at Café Via Mare. Breakfast spread is pretty normal, with a combination of local and international dishes.
I also had the opportunity to sample some of the signature dishes at Café Via Mare, available daily for lunch and dinner, as well as in-room dining. Prices are pretty affordable.
The Dabai Fried Rice has a strong Dabai fruit aroma whereas if you are feeling hungry during teatime, you can always check out the La Via Mare Sandwich.
The rosemary chicken chop is grilled to perfection, slightly crispy on the outside and juicy and succulent on the inside. My favorite of all the dishes, would be the Sarawak Laksa. Thick broth compliments the noodle very well. If you’re looking for something local, you definitely have to give this Sarawak Laksa a try!
The Facilities
Gym as well as swimming pool are available at The Waterfront Kuching. The gym is basic, but is sufficient for a light workout.
The swimming pool is located by the pool bar, and it is semi-indoor(outdoor). You can swim and take in the views of Kuching city at the same time.
Final Thoughts – The Waterfront Kuching
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at The Waterfront Kuching. Being the only 5-star boutique hotel in the area, The Waterfront Kuching is able to provide top-notch service, at the same time maintaining a pretty affordable rates. It’s location is very strategic and if you are looking to explore around Kuching city area, The Waterfront Kuching is definitely your go-to hotel!
