Jade Pavilion Food Review
Sautéed Hokkaido Scallop with Thai Ginger Chili Sauce and Crispy Mantou (香辣醬爆玉帶伴脆馒头)
The tanginess from the Thai ginger chili sauce really work our appetite up! The sweet and sour sauce goes really well with the crispy mantou, and the scallops were huge and fresh.
Golden Fried Prawn with Salty Egg Yolk and Chicken Floss (鹹蛋醬黃金蝦球)
If you are new to Cantonese cuisine, you should know that every good Cantonese restaurant serves a delicious salty egg yolk dish. In the case of Jade Pavilion, this fried prawn with salty egg yolk was cooked to perfection. Jumbo prawns deep fried, and then coated with salty and sweet egg yolk. This is a classic!
Wok Fried Cubed Beef Tenderloin with Assorted Mushroom and Golden Garlic (金蒜鮮菌香煎牛仔粒)
This was a very surprising dish. The beef initially, looked dry on the outside. However, when I took a bite, the juiciness of the beef burst inside my mouth, and it was filled with intense aroma from the stir-fry. The fried garlic added a different texture to the dish. This is a must-order!
Golden Fried Seafood Bean Curd with Crab Meat Sauce (蟹粉琵琶豆腐)
This is another signature dish of Jade Pavilion. Homemade seafood tofu, topped with fresh crab meat thick sauce. The tofu was lightly fried, and contrary to the usual soft tofu, this was pretty substantial. Jade Pavilion certainly are generous with their fillings!
Jade Pavilion’s Seafood Fried Rice with Supreme Spicy Sauce (玉亭軒招牌炒飯)
We were told that this dish was on almost every table, as it is the signature dish of Jade Pavilion. The portion was generous, and there were chunks of scallops in the fried rice. My partner enjoyed it, but I felt the fried rice is a tad to dry for my liking. Unlike the name suggests, it also wasn’t spicy. I guess it is a matter of personal preference.
Chilled Mango and Longan Pudding, with Tropical Fruit Puree and Custard Roll (香芒軟糕拼鱷梨龍眼布甸)
This dish was served along with dry ice to create that ‘magical’ effect. I would say the taste was as good as the presentation. While both mango and longan had a distinctively different taste profile, the mildness of the tropical fruit puree harmonize everything into a very refreshing dessert. The custard role provided a much-needed crunchiness.
Jade Pavilion’s Signature Musang King Durian Mochi (玉亭軒貓山王榴蓮麻糬)
To finish our very delightful dining experience, we were served Jade Pavilion’s Signature dessert, Musang King Mochi. The skin of the mochi was starchy, and we really appreciate the generous filling of the durian flesh. It is definitely frozen, but it does not affect the taste at all. The pungent Musang King aroma filled our mouth as soon as we bit into the mochi. Very yummy!
Final Thoughts: Jade Pavilion
We find the dishes were authentic, and the ingredients used were fresh. If you are looking for a high-quality Cantonese dining experience, you should definitely check out Jade Pavilion.
