Hotel Maya has went through a 6-month renovation and upgrading work, where the main focus was on repair and maintenance work of the rooms. A total of 75 rooms has been transformed into newly-styled studio heritage rooms. More on the heritage room later.
First Impression – Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur
Hotel Maya is pretty easy to spot since it is located in a prime area. In fact, the famous W Hotel is located right across from Hotel Maya.
However, the entrance to the hotel can be a bit tricky. If you are taking grab, the driver should take you up to the 1st floor where the lobby is located. The ground floor entrance is strictly reserved for La Bodega guests.
The lobby area where your grab driver, and all your food deliveries are delivered. This open area is shared with Plaza 138.
Lobby Sitting Area
Inside the lobby was pretty comfortable with plenty of natural lighting and also various sitting and lounge area for causal meetings.
Check in was pretty smooth and I was handed the keys to my room in about 10 minutes. I was charmed by the friendliness and the welcoming atmosphere of the staff at the counter as well.
The Room – Studio Heritage
The room I will be staying in is the Studio Heritage rooms, the newly refurbished rooms at Hotel Maya. I was in awe of the corridor due to their open-corridor concept, something you don’t see often in hotels in Malaysia.
As I walked into the room, I was welcomed by quite a few cute elephants folded with towels, and almost some Baba Nyonya-inspired decorations. It was clear that the room were refurbished to give out a ‘heritage’ vibe, yet still being modern and elegant.
Our room has everything we need, ranging from ironing boards, bathrobes, as well as a mini bar where complimentary bottled water, coffee and tea are provided.
I personally am a big fan of the working desk, with ample space and close to the window.
The bed itself was big enough for 2 person, and very comfortable to sleep in. The batik design is exclusively available only at Hotel Maya.
The bathroom was very spacious, and is separated into a shower and toilet area.
A full range of toilet amenities are provided as well. Personally, I am a big fan of their soap!
Another unique selling point of Hotel Maya is their Hydrotherapy pool. The pool is located in a semi-outdoor setting. There is also a gym and a fitness studio.
A simple breakfast buffet is served in Hotel Maya’s inhouse restaurant. There is also a Spanish Tapas Restaurant in Hotel Maya, and you can check out our review HERE.
Back to the breakfast, western, local and Asian dishes are served. Interestingly, some Malay kuihs are served in this buffet, a rare sighting in other hotels.
Yours truly is having a tough time waking up early for breakfast, so couldn’t eat much. However, food was pretty OK and acceptable for a mid-range boutique hotel.
