If you have been travelling across Asia, you would notice a particular brand that typically appears in and around the area of hot tourist attractions. As of February 2023, Travelodge currently has 17 operating hotels in countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Thailand and Japan.
Travelodge Honmachi Osaka is the first of many other Travelodge hotels that will be opened in Japan in 2023. At the time of writing, there are already 3 other Travelodge Hotels in Japan – Travelodge Kyoto Shijo Kawaramachi, Travelodge Nagoya Sakar, and Travelodge Sapporo Susukino.
During my trip to Osaka, I was lucky enough to stay at the first Travelodge Hotel in Japan, the Travelodge Honmachi Osaka. Located in the busy district of Honmachi, Travelodge Honmachi Osaka is within 5 minutes walk away from the Honmachi Subway. The hotel is also located in the Midosuji Area, a well-known shopping district. Osaka’s most famous tourist hotspots, Shinsaibashi and Namba, are also walking distance from the hotel.
First Impression
My walk from the subway station pleasant. It is pretty easy to spot the hotel as the signage was clear.
You would have to walk in and take the lift to the 1st floor, where the lobby is located.
Just beside the check-in counter was the co-working area as well, where you can spend time mingle with guests from all walks of life and have your work done. There is also a beverage machine, serving up unlimited tea, coffee, carbonated drinks, and juices from morning till night. Check in was a breeze and the overall process took less than 10 minutes.
The Room
My room was a Deluxe Twin room, and considering the prime location the hotel is located, room space afforded at Travelodge Honmachi Osaka was very generous.
As I enter the room, the washroom is on my right, whereas a narrow walkway leads me to my bedroom.
At first glance, you might thought the room is actually quite small. But clever use of space and well thought-out design make the room felt very spacious. I especially like the open-wardrobe concept.
The toilet consists of a separated shower and toilet area. The shower area is a bathtub 2-in-1, which is usually a typical concept in most Japanese hotel. I was pleasantly surprised to find that bathroom to be very spacious. It is also very clean.
The Facilities
Breakfast was pretty limited in choices, but sufficient to start the day.
Furthermore, there are several other facilities available in and around the hotel.
- Snooze: Comfy rooms with a signature local brand “France Bed” mattress.
- Spin: Self-service launderettes area.
- Stream: High-speed Wi-Fi.
- Social: Co-working space for individual work & group meetings.
- Service: 24-hour reception and local ambassador.
- Smart Mart: 24/7 convenience store nearby.
Final Thoughts
We really enjoyed our stay at Travelodge Honmachi Osaka. We especially liked the premium mattresses available in our room, and the high-speed internet really kept me connected throughout my stay. I also enjoyed the social workspace, and the unlimited beverage machine was the icing on the cake. It is also located very near to the subway station, and it make my travelling around Osaka felt extremely seamless.
