With its cozy atmosphere, Retro Cafe Vivatel is a great setting for hearty breakfasts, quick lunches, informal dinners as well as casual meetings over coffee.
During our staycation at Vivatel Kuala Lumpur, we enjoyed our breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the Retro Cafe. We had the opportunity to sample their famous Fish Head Curry during lunch and also the Signature Nasi Briyani during dinner.
The Lunch: Famous Fish Head Curry
During lunch, we were served the Famous Fish Head Curry. The fish used was Ikan Merah and it weighs a massive 1.5KG! The set comes with 4 plates of rice, a bowl of cabbage, and a plate of papadom.
There are also okra and several different vegetables cooked in the heavenly thick gravy of the fish head curry. The gravy had some sourness to go with the spiciness and its the perfect comfort food during rainy days.
The flesh of the fish itself was very succulent and extremely bouncy. The entire fish head could easily feed up to 6 people, due to its massive size and it is very meaty.
This dish requires advance reservation, so be sure to call up Vivatel before you head over to devour this mouth-watering dish. It is currently priced at RM140/set.
The Dinner: Signature Nasi Briyani
We also had the opportunity to sample their Signature Nasi Briyani, with Chicken and Lamb respectively.
Each serving comes with a choice of chicken or lamb, along with the perfectly cooked Nasi, a whole hard-boiled egg, some pickled vegetables, and the fan-favorite papadom.
While we enjoyed the Chicken Nasi Briyani, the Lamb Nasi Briyani totally blew us away and it is on a totally different level. The portion of the lamb was extremely huge, and it goes well with the gravy and the Nasi. The lamb meat was not tough at all, cooked to perfection, and heavily infused with the aroma of the gravy.
The Chicken Nasi Briyani is priced at RM28/serving and the Lamb Nasi Briyani is priced at RM35/serving. One day reservation in advance is required to enjoy these signature dishes.
