Cafe Jen @ Jen Hotel Penang – Food Review 2021

Jen Hotel by Shangri-La has a distinctive modern Asian identity, strive to connect the world to the opportunities of New Asia. Designed for guests and tourists who keen to explore around Asia, Jen Hotel Penang is the perfect choice for locals and foreigners alike when they head to Georgetown, Penang.

We had a lovely stay at Jen Hotel, and you can check out our review of Jen Hotel HERE. We also had the opportunity to dine at Cafe Jen, Jen Hotel’s all day dining restaurant.

Buffet Breakfast

The buffet spread at cafe Jen is pretty OK. You have all the usual suspects, from western to local cuisines. What I found interesting was the breads are actually individually wrapped and packed LOL. I guess its for hygiene purposes.

Live Station

There is also a live station where noodles are served. There is also porridge and dimsum.

I ordered omelet with extra cheese and my god they stuffed it with loads of cheese! Besides, the creamy mushroom was so good, I had several servings of it. For nasi lemak, Cafe Jen actually served fried fish, instead of your usual fried chicken and ayam rendang. Very innovative indeed!

A slight disappointment was the waffle. Waffle was cooked to perfection, however I was surprised when they told me there’s no honey/maple syrup to go with the waffle. In the end I put strawberry syrup instead.

The Lunch

The time I visited Jen Hotel was in early November, and the festival of lights is nearing. Hence, I had an indian-themed lunch!

The food was amazing. Rice was cooked to perfection and the chicken and lamb was very tender. I also loved the dessert, the platting was exquisite!

The chicken satay was delicious. Chicken was well marinated and not too dry. I also had the Ice Blended Mocha and unfortunately it was a tab too bland for my liking.

Being an alcoholic, I had to order their Pina Colada. To my surprise, it was actually pretty good. Milky from the coconut milk, tropical from the pineapple juice and a slight hint of alcohol from the Rum. It was actually one of the better Pina Coladas I’ve tasted in recent times.

Under the suggestion of the waitress, we also had the Seafood Pizza and Hainanese Chicken Chop. The Pizza was filled with different kind of seafood, and the pizza dough was cooked to perfection. The chicken chop was crispy on the outside, and moist on the inside. The sauce is extremely flavorful as well.
