Designed by world renowned designer Philippe Starck, S Hotel Taipei is one of Taipei’s most upscale and one-of-a-kind accommodation. Located near Taipei Arena, S Hotel Taipei is within steps away from shopping malls, financial towers, and the MRT station.
First Impression
We relied heavily on public transport during our trip in Taipei, and we were glad to find out that S Hotel Taipei is located just 5 minutes away from the nearest train station. The walk from the train station was pleasant and comfortable.
We were amazed as we enter S Hotel. The lobby is filled with art pieces, it was as if we entered into the mind of Philippe Starck. Everything from the design to the upholsteries were unique, and one-of-a-kind. If you are not aware, S Hotel is enlisted in the 2018 and 2019 edition of best hotels in Taipei in the Michelin Guide.
Check-in was smooth, and I got myself the room key card within 10 minutes.
There are also multiple seating areas, almost like a mini-library, in the lobby.
The Room
We really liked the room design – basic, clean and elegant.
As we enter, we are greeted by a comfortable queen-sized bed. The bed was sufficient for 2 person and we definitely enjoyed our sleep on the bed.
TV is mounted to the mirror-wall, and has MOD. All of the titles in MOD are free of charge.
Sachets of coffee and tea are provided, along with a complimentary mini bar that consists of a can of coke, as well as 2 packet of local milk/plain tea. Bottled waters are also FOC.
Beside the mini bar was a wardrobe cum luggage area.
There is a working desk beside the TV. Bluetooth speaker is provided. We do, however, felt that plug points in and around the room was lacking.
This is a seating area by the window that overlooks the city. The blinds are electronically controlled.
The washroom is separated into 3 areas. The first is the vanity area, sandwiched by 2 separated areas of toilet and shower.
Full set of toilet amenities are also provided.
The Breakfast
Located 1 floor below the lobby area, breakfast is served at S Hotel’s all day dining restaurant. The breakfast is served buffet style, consisting mostly Taiwanese-inspired cuisine with a dash of western delights.
We find that breakfast at S Hotel was top notch, but lacking variety. We ate breakfast at S Hotel for 2 days, and was slightly disappointed to find the food served was almost 90% similar to what it served the day before. Nevertheless, the food was delicious and of high quality and it is one of the best breakfast we have had throughout our entire trip in Taipei.
Final Thoughts
Boasting 101 rooms, each a blend of contemporary architecture and sophisticated design, our stay at S Hotel Taipei was very memorable and it is definitely a fun place that we would come back time and time again.
