First Impression – Macalister Hotel by PHC

It’s not hard to spot Macalister Hotel. It’s white English Colonial design stood out from afar. The entrance however, is located inside a lane, not facing the busy streets of Macalister Road.

The lobby is rather small, but cozy. There used to be a F&B cafe on the left side of the lobby, but was closed down due to MCO. There are ample seating area for guests to wait for check in. My check in was brief, however my room was not ready when I reached at 1PM. I was escorted to my room at about 2PM when the room is cleaned.

There are only 3 floors in total at Macalister Hotel, where the second floor houses the majority of the rooms. My room, a Deluxe King, is also located on the second floor.

The Room

Open Wardrobe

I was very happy to see that my room was very well-lit by the natural light from the window. I also like the wood-element in my room. There is a huge open-wardrobe for me to hang my clothes, and a rather big area to store my luggage. There is also a working desk. The bed itself is a king-sized bed. Very fluffy and comfortable to sleep in.

Toilet and Shower Area
Basic amenities

The toilet was pretty basic but well-designed. Shower and toilet area was separated (I love that!). Single vanity and basic toiletries are provided. Water power was strong.

Final Thoughts – Macalister Hotel by PHC

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Macalister Hotel. Rooms were basic, yet sufficient for a couple of nights stay in the heart of Georgetown. Great food around the area, strategic location, modern rooms, and affordable pricing! However, no breakfast was provided but that was least of our concern as there are many food choices just a stone’s throw away. Please note that the hotel has no gym nor swimming pool, but why head to the pool or gym when you are in Penang? You can book your stay at Macalister Hotel HERE.

We would like to thank MR. Tang and the PHC team for their hospitality and for hosting us for 1 night! We thoroughly enjoyed out stay.
